Rhea

$50.00

This peony tattoo design consists of two blooming peonies that are adorned with leaves and a magical crescent moon. The design is named after a woman from Roman Mythology. Her name was Rhea, and she was the mother of Romulus and Remus who founded Rome. The meaning of the name may be related to ῥέω (rheo) which means “to flow”, or to ἔρα (era) which means “ground”. And that’s exactly what this design symbolises to me. Because the inspiration for it came to me quite out of the blue, after I had felt creatively blocked for a while and unmotivated to create new designs. The flow of this design is what I love the most about it; from the gentle sway of the petals and leaves to how it all comes together with the crescent moon at the top. Creating this design was a grounding experience for me, and I hope it will go on someone’s skin and make them feel just as grounded and inspired.
